The band playing Abide With Me
|
Don't know why (maybe cos i was quite pissed), but that was one of the most affecting moments from last night. Was a great touch having the band there.

The video that was shown on the screens should be a permanent fixture on the official site and updated when we lose anyone.

I admit that it was the only moment during the entire proceedings that really got to me.
As the band started playing it, and as the names started to roll up on the screen, I thought of my old dad standing on the Chicken Run as he did for most of the 40's, 50's and 60's before his premature death in 1970.

This should have been shown as a key part of the Sky coverage of the game.
I do not know the worldwide viewing figures for Sky but there would have been millions of fans worldwide who would have loved to see / hear that aspect, in much the same way they did not show the after match lap of honour by the players before the closing ceremony.

Hornchurch Drum and Trumpet Corps were always the better band in their hey day. Mr Burns - toot toot!

That got me a bit too - it's a dirge of a song at the best of times
Thought of all my brown bread family who used to stand on the old north bank

I love Abide With Me. It was either at Dylan Tombides or John Lyall when the applause started and that was the blubbiest bit for me. Nobes interview later was great too. To be honest I thought the after match stuff (apart from Sir Trevor and Nobes interviews, some of the videos and the fireworks) was poor, but it would have been out of keeping with ground tradition for it to be anything else. Slicker production values will fit better with the OS.

Yep, the most emotional part of the evening for me as also made me think of family who took me to games or went to the ground and have also died. Much more moving than the closing ceremony.

Lovely to see the band, reminded me of the old days, and was more happier when the Cockney rejects started playing. A great night.
